A REAL RETREAT

Traveling around Latin America 28 years ago we fell for spacious Bolivia and its people. The striking view of the Samaipatan valley  -Samaipata means the Height to Rest-

with its delightful subtropical climate, made us settle here in an old country retreat of 6 ha.

We called it "La Víspera" (the Eve) which in South America refers to a celebration of what is to come.....

With the years La Víspera has grown to become a Real Organic Farm Retreat with hundreds of indigenous trees, flower- and terraced gardens. We grow a grand variety of vegetables, fruits and aromatic herbs. In the Herbolario we process them into medicinal mixtures, herbal teas, seasoning, massage oils, tinctures, jams, nectars & mousses.

Finca La Víspera provides shelter to some 90 bird species  , iguanas and mammals like: deer, foxes, porcupines, badgers, skunks, guinea pigs.

We have happy dogs to hug and horses to ride.

 LODGING***

Faced with an ever increasing flow of visitors, we built a scattering of  4 Comfortable Guesthouses and a Camping site.

We give a hearty welcome to travellers, hikers and writers,

who yearn for silence and nature.

Appropriate for extended stay.

The guesthouses can house up to 25 people and the camping site up to14 tents/camper vans. In both cases we provide fully-equipped kitchens, private bathrooms, hot  showers, barbecue, deck chairs and hammocks, gardens and terraces.

Slow Food

Encouraged by the delighted responses of guests invited to dine at our table, we started the garden café some six years ago.

On the panoramic terrace we serve breakfast all day, a variety of bread baked in a traditional clay oven, yoghurt with muesli & fresh fruits, herbal teas, capucchino, soups, specialities such as rhubarb- mango- and loquat pancakes, spinach tartlet, huge salads, quinuoa pie, vegetarian omelettes & wraps, chocolate cake, handmade pastas, rhubarb pie, currant buns, homemade marmelades & the

real scones with clotted cream.

All fresh from our gardens!

   Herb Shop

La Víspera is a well-established organic herb farm. Herbs are dried and processed into delicious herbal blends on a daily basis.

We also process herbal extracts & massage oils and make our own mango chutney, jams, rhubarb sauce & fruity nectars.

Every Wednesday we harvest fresh vegetables, herbs and edible flowers for the health food market in Santa Cruz.

Guests sometimes like to assist.

Horse riding

Our horses are for rent, per hour, per day or even week.

We can also arrange for you to ride accompanied by a

local guide. See Tours.

Ecological Paradise

Exploring the finca leaves you with the undeniable sense that this is old land.
Life has always been organically slow here; and is again with us now.

The stone walls in the native park uphill are reminders of the old Inca road leading to the local sanctuary, the current ruins of  "El Fuerte."

You never get bored of the views on the valley.

Games, reading & dwelling  in the present moment

In the garden café you´ll find games, photo books and comics. There is also an Inca chessboard on hand inviting a game. Our library offers books on local flora & fauna, birds and travel guides.

Books to swop and for sale.

The finca is full of idyllic places to rest, meditate, read your favorite book (finally), write your diary or simply gaze at the clouds or the mountains of national park Amboró, across the valley.

 Tours

Pioneers

In 1989 Marga came up with the idea of showing "her Bolivia" to others: thus travel department  Boliviajes was born.  She subsequently spent 4 years as a guide, leading small groups around Bolivia, with a five-week "discovery journey".

We were then contacted by Dutch travel agencies, who asked us to develop tours in both the region as well as throughout the country.

Pieter walked with Don Gilberto hundreds of kms through valley-area and even crossed the National Park Amboró in 18 days.

Samaipata got spotted and achieved its first entry in the Lonely Planet guide as a "Bolivian highlight".

Reception

The old farmhouse now serves as the reception, where we provide ample tailor-made information about the region and rest of the country.

Here you can find out about hiking, tours and excursions we offer around Samaipata and throughout Bolivia.
